Dr. Kelvin J. Washington, Ph.D

Kelvin J. Washington, known to many as “KJ,” is a proud resident of Waynesboro, born and raised in the community he now seeks to serve on the local School Board. Growing up in Ward C and attending William Perry Elementary School, he learned early the life-changing impact that strong schools and dedicated educators can have on a child’s future. His mother served as an instructional aide at Westwood Elementary School, giving him firsthand insight into the commitment and sacrifice of those who work daily to support students and families.

A graduate of Waynesboro High School with an Advanced Diploma, Kelvin J. Washington excelled academically as an advanced placement student and dual enrollment participant, earning college credit while still in high school. He continued his educational journey by earning four degrees: a Bachelor of Science in Pastoral Leadership and Biblical Exposition, a Master of Divinity, a Master of Theology, and a Doctorate of Theological Studies (Ph.D.).

Professionally, Kelvin J. Washington has served in both education and administration, including work on the administrative team of a private school in Richmond, Virginia. There, he focused on student retention and strengthening partnerships between schools and families through initiatives such as home-visit parent-teacher conferences. His experiences reinforced his commitment to helping local schools avoid many of the challenges that have impacted larger education systems.

As an educator, he has taught students at both the secondary and post-secondary levels, including undergraduate and graduate education. His passion for leadership and service extends far beyond the classroom. He has served on the board of a school of divinity, helping develop policies and procedures for institutional advancement, and has also served on the Waynesboro Family YMCA Board. He currently leads a school within the community, coaches youth soccer at Waynesboro High School, and pastors a local Waynesboro church.

Throughout the pandemic, Kelvin J. Washington helped organize and operate a community food pantry that provided meals at William Perry Elementary and Wenonah Elementary twice each week to families in need, continuing his longstanding commitment to service and outreach.

Above all, Kelvin J. Washington is a devoted husband and father of four who believes every child deserves access to safe schools, strong teachers, supportive families, and opportunities to succeed. His campaign is rooted in a deep love for Waynesboro and a vision for strengthening the future of its students and families.
